Say “yes” to Historical route 66 in Kingman which represents the open road, the freedom, and the possibility for The American Dream and let your imagination soar!

Artist & former New Jersey resident Gregg Arnold has given people another reason to stop and just enjoy the views from the top of Antares Road, where you can watch the dust devils spiral up to the sky and glide over the untainted valley and up to the towering and majestic Music mountains and the Grand Wash Cliffs.

When asked why sculpt an Easter Island Icon on the corner of his property Arnold simply stated “Somebody had to. And besides, isn’t that what Route 66 is all about? Why not give people an unexpected surprise when they round the corner? I lived my whole life on the East Coast where everyone is piled up on top of each other and when I realized how much space is out here I knew I had to do something big and fun.” So fun in fact, that Trotter R.V. Sales of Kingman recently shot a commercial featuring Headicus.

The Kingman/ Hackberry section of 66 has recently seen quite a few changes and renovations. Everywhere you look there is new housing, new projects, and the re-vamping of old structures that have all breathed fresh life into the deserving Mother Road.

As you go east from the Kingman airport and industrial center you get an eyeful of open spaces, passing cattle and horses, and quite commonly you see trains that are literally miles long and stacked 2 high.

Trains on the right and mountain ranges on the left wind the traveler around to a bend in the road that signals their arriving at Headicus’s home, a fantastic A-frame building that was previously a restaurant and fuel stop in 66′s hey-day and is currently under renovation, complete with original sign, where Arnold says that people are welcome to stop and take their picture with his giant green head.

(PRWEB) August 3, 2005

As a prelude to two Route 66 books, coming out later this year, this online information about the Mother Road is by far, more extensive than most, and not only delves into Route 66, but also, the history of the many towns that this historic pavement passes through From vintage icons along the old highway, including such places as the Cozy Dog Drive-In in Springfield, Illinois; Wrink’s Market and the Munger Moss Motel in Lebanon, Missouri; or the Snow Cap Drive-In in Seligman, Arizona, this site continues to reach deeper into history.

If you thought that Route 66 was nothing more than an old weed-choked road dotted with motels and diners from the 1940’s, you’ll find that there is plenty more when driving this chunk of asphalt. From Civil War sites in Missouri and Oklahoma, outlaws in Texas and New Mexico, to the numerous gold mining camps of Arizona, the sights along this old highway are incredible.

Legendary Route 66, part of Weiser’s extensive look at the west on http://www.LegendsOfAmerica.com gives readers an in depth feel for this American classic. From the buttery smell of popcorn at the drive-in theater to a greasy burger at the local diner, Weiser takes you deeper into the cities and towns they were famous for, all the way back to the Old West. Towns like Holbrook Arizona, once said to have been “too tough for women or churches;” Tucumcari New Mexico, once referred to as “Six-Shooter Siding,” and Galena Kansas, the site of much bloodshed during its coal mining days.

As an added bonus, you will also find interesting side trips, numerous lakes, state and national parks, and historical sites — pages and pages of Americana that come to life, including a few surprises along the way. For more information visit Legendary Route 66 at http://www.legendsofamerica.com/66-Mainpage.html or contact Legends of America Owner/Editor Kathy Weiser at Legends of America – http://legendsofamerica.com, e-mail at info@legendsofamerica.com, call 913-708-5119, or snail mail at 7457 Quivira Rd, #166, Shawnee, KS 66216

Ellettsville, IN (PRWEB) January 17, 2007

Ride & Fly Tours’ latest innovation in motorcycle tourism, a package tour along Route 66, gives bikers a chance to glimpse the spirit of American frontiersmen and legendary pioneers. The details of the Route 66 tour are available online at http://www.rideandflytours.com/route66.php.

“The American pioneering tradition is really the original source of our love of the road, and especially for bikers, that wanderlust will echo strongly,” says John Garwood of Ride & Fly Tours. “A motorcycle tour down Route 66 is the definitive way to relive that era and to rediscover a forgotten path from American heritage.”

Historically, Route 66 was the road to the promised land, leading thousands of people out of poverty in the east into prosperity of the west, especially in the golden state of California. Route 66 is no longer a U.S. Federal highway, and it is rarely even shown on maps — which makes it all the more ideal for an adventurous motorcycle odyssey. Spanning anywhere from five days to three weeks, the tour runs from Chicago through Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona before ending in Los Angeles.

As with every Ride & Fly motorcycle tour, the Route 66 package gives riders the chance to explore fabulous locations along the way. An experienced, knowledgeable guide rides with each party, so that riders can travel on the best roads and avoid the poorly maintained sections of Route 66. Ride & Fly customizes all aspects of the tour, such as accommodation along the way, according to the tastes of each party.

“Route 66 is the mother of all road trips, and beauty and timeless history abounds at every turn,” says Garwood. “Come along on our motorcycle tour and experience this adventure of a lifetime!”

Ride & Fly Tours offers unique vacation ideas that combine a love for motorcycle riding with a breadth of comfort and amenities. The company was started by John Garwood, a motorcycle enthusiast, and his wife Pamm. Ride & Fly Tours designs custom packages for even the most discriminating tastes, and its guides rely on a deep knowledge of the area to provide the most pleasurable holiday experience possible.

The famous Route 66 is a historic highway that ran from Chicago, Illinois and ended at the coastal city of Los Angeles, California. Known as the “Main Street of America”, it was established in 1926 and became a major route for migrants during the Dust Bowl of the 1930s. The route has been idolised in many songs, TV shows and films throughout the year, but was officially removed from the highway system in 1985. However, each year travellers from across the world drive the Historic Route 66 (as it is now known) to experience a famous piece of American history.

You can just fly into Chicago, pick up a rental car and a map and make your way to the City of Angels, but the easiest way to do this journey is by booking a Route 66 fly drive tour. A tour operator will make many of the necessary arrangements for you before you even set foot on US soil. They will sort out your rental car, book any accommodation, supply you with maps, guides, sightseeing tips and all the relevant contact details for emergencies.

A typical itinerary for a Route 66 self-drive tour can last around two weeks. Day one and the morning of day two is usually spent in the Chicago “The Windy City”. Here you will pick up your rental car, stay the first night in a city centre hotel and the next morning exploring the city and picking up supplies for the trip. In the afternoon you will start your journey west and make you way to Springfield, famous for being the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln (and possibly Homer Simpson).

After spending a night in Springfield, day three takes you to the banks of the Mississippi and St Louis, Missouri. Take the opportunity while you are here to venture on a traditional paddlewheel riverboat ride along this famous river. Days four and five take you through Missouri and briefly into the farmlands and small towns of Kansas before entering Oklahoma and spending a night in Oklahoma City.

During your journey along Route 66 you will see a number of sights and attractions that pay celebrate this famous road. This includes the “Cadillac Ranch” just west of Amarillo, Texas on day seven. The ranch has 10 Cadillac cars buried nose down in the ground to pay homage to the route.

After passing the midway point you continue into New Mexico. Be sure to look out for the historic buildings of Santa Rosa and stop at the Route 66 Auto Museum and admire the classic cars and Route 66 memorabilia. This part of the journey also takes you through Las Vegas, New Mexico, which was the filming location for Easy Rider and No Country for Old Men.

Day nine sees you entering Arizona and passing through the Petrified Forest National Park and on to day ten where you can make a stop at the breathtaking Grand Canyon. This is a great time to stop and rest and admire the amazing views of this famous landmark.

Watch the sunrise over the Grand Canyon before starting off on the final leg of your journey. Continue west and to the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada. Stay here for two nights to soak up the atmosphere and experience everything this unique city has to offer.

If you’ve still got some money left for petrol, your last day leads you through the Mojave Desert and to the home of palm trees and beautiful people – Los Angeles. LA is the final stop on many of these self-drive USA holidays, but you can extend your stay here and explore the city, or give your car back and make your way home.
