My husband and I are planning to drive Route 66 in Oct 2010, how many days should we allow as we want to see everything and go to Roswell as well.

We drove from Chicago to St.Louis on route 66 just last week. That section took 2 days, but we stopped at all of the goofy attractions along the way. 66 runs adjacent to an interstate almost the entire length so you can hope on a highway when things get boring. It was a great time, just don’t get in a hurry. Roadside America has a big list of the different attractions along the way. Have fun!!

Zero>Even in it’s heyday Rt 66 was a boring and unremarkable road. ( that’s why it was so popular )Today most of it’s gone and the traveler winds up going to web sites and buying guide books in a vain attempt to reconstruct a world that never really was as good as it was supposed to be
If you want to take an awesome US highway coast to coast then US 50 is a much better choice
