I read a review of the Super-8 in Williams,AZ that by someone that said they had made a reservation using Priceline. When they got there the manager refused to honor the priceline price and charged them a lot more. What if this happens? Are you screwed? Is there a way to use Priceline and make sure the Hotel will accept the price before booking?

If you booked a hotel using Priceline and they refuse to honor it the hotel is then in violation of the contract they signed with Priceline.

Of course, that might be small consolation as you face the prospect on a night with no hotel room.

Here’s what I would do (before) I left on vacation.

a) Print out a written confirmation of the reservation. Make sure you have the confirmation code, the date, the hotel address, and most importantly the rate. In most cases this should do the trick when you show it to the check in clerk.

b) If they still refuse to honor upon arrival ask them specifically why they are refusing to honor. Then call the toll free Priceline number. Tell them about the situation. As your online travel agency they will be on your side. Have them "fight it out" with Super 8′s front desk over the phone.

c) If you are still stuck, ask to speak with the Regional Manager or the corporate office of Super 8. You can try the 1-800 # as well for Super 8, but in my experience asking for the CORPORATE OFFICE gets much better results. Mention that you believe Super 8 is in breach of contract for not honoring a valid reservation and get everyone’s name and position that you speak to. You can mention that you will referring the situation to a newspaper Travel Columnist if you cannot reach a resolution. (The last thing any company needs is bad press either in print or online).

Whatever you do, DO NOT threaten or make any mention of suing or a lawsuit. Most companies at that point will refuse (and have the right) to stop dealing with you, because it becomes a legal matter instead of a customer service matter. Your goal is to get a room for the night at the agreed upon rate. Not to take them to court.

That should take care of things. Enjoy your room!

I would also contact Priceline and let them know about that because it is a serious breach of their contract.
